Russian director Mikhail Kalatozov worked prolifically in the early '30s but later lost favour with the government. His work 'Soy Cuba' (1964) is a masterpiece of narrative cinema with incredibly innovative filming techniques and an inspiration for Martin Scorsese who distributed it in the US in 1995.
